Before I get to the good or bad bit (keeping you guessing) I should admit that I have left weight watchers meetings because I can no longer afford them! But I have enlisted the help of my own personal weight watcher, Chloe, who is just as scary as any official lady!&lt;br /&gt;We had our first weigh in this Monday and the results are in! 11.5lbs off this week (although it's about 4 weeks since my last official weigh-in) which makes 30lbs altogether, or 2 stone and 2 lbs!! WOOOHOOOO!! I am, however, steadily losing according to my trusty bathroom scales; possibly because of an increased intake of Green Tea!! Apparently it makes you lose weight faster. Sorry. I have had meetings and holidays and other things that couldn't be helped. The removal of meeting-pressure has meant a slight dip in concentration but I did manage to lose 2 more lbs this week which makes &lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;17.5lbs&lt;/span&gt; in total! It is better for your health - your heart and your joints etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (which makes it harder to lose weight btw) which makes my chances of getting diabetes and heart disease higher but weight loss can make a huge difference.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. I think I would feel better about myself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. I could buy loads more clothes that I actually feel good wearing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. I want to.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. So, in light of that, my first goal is to lose 3 stone by my 30th (yes I finally admitted it) birthday on 11th February 2010. That's 8 months which I think is a reasonable target and last time I did weight watchers I managed 3 stone in 6 months (although that did include a stint in America where I was deathly ill!).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The week is going well so far, diet-wise, so feeling pretty pleased with myself. I am bit frustrated with myself and my complete lack of discipline and determination. Some days I think it is a good thing that I am not so unhappy with my weight that it drags me down, and some days that is just an excuse to not do anything!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway.. tonight marks a return to weightwatchers. It worked for me once and I think I can do it again. I might buy myself a lovely dress that is way too small and try it on every day - it worked last time!! I have fulfilled my quota of 12 visits in the first month (which they recommend) and have lost a stone since Christmas! Although I think it is easier to lose holiday weight as it hasn't had a chance to really bed-in for the long term yet so that probably sounds better than it is! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am doing the GI Diet which is all about eating things that make you feel full for longer and don't spike your energy levels. It's really easy and you can eats loads! So I am happy and motivated for now. Also, because of all the running I did coming up to Christmas I am surprisingly fitter than I thought I was and so am feeling pretty good about going to the gym. The internet is full of useful information and pictures to illustrate everything in life. There are loads of machines and those screens play MTV, Sky Sports News, BBC1 and Channel 4 all day long. You just plug your little headphones in, choose a channel and off you go! I have been 4 times this week. The plan is to try for at least 3 times a week and see how it goes. I am enjoying it so far and it feels good to be back doing something active. I'm doing a balance workshop on Monday and my first full length spin class on Wednesday - we will see how that goes! I have joined the gym up the road from my house. I was getting into the habit of training three times a week and even would say that when I had to stop I missed it. Part of that was missing spending time with Coach Chloe, part of it was missing feeling a bit healthier and fitter and having more energy in the day and better sleep at night! So I took the costly decision to join the gym - I get full access ti classes, the gym and the pool all day every day. What I really want to try is a bit of spinning (pictured). I had a nice induction today with a guy who looked a bit like Dan Weekes (which is odd as I felt a kind of fondness for him even though I didn't know him at all and had to keep reminding myself that I shouldn't be over-familiar!). I am booked in for a spin-taster with Gary (Dan lookalike) on Thursday so we will see how it goes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Had a ridiculous experience with the brilliant NHS the other day. I got a letter with a reference number and a password on it and a number to call to make an appointment with the musculoskeletal something or other specialists... Here are the steps I had to go through:&lt;br /&gt;1. phoned number - answering machine saying very busy and to book appointment online.&lt;br /&gt;2. Went online and set up account (took ages to enter all info they wanted plus passwords etc) and at the end it said the booking system didn't support my web-browser... phone this number.&lt;br /&gt;3. Phoned the number - same answering machine saying to do it online but added that could hold for operator. Held for operator.&lt;br /&gt;4. Spoke to man after 10mins of waiting. Went through whole process of setting up account with him - passwords, ref numbers, address DOB etc etc.&lt;br /&gt;5. Man told me the type of appointment I needed was actually booked at another number he realised!!&lt;br /&gt;6. Phoned other number, set up account at length...&lt;br /&gt;7. Woman said they would call me back when they decided if they WOULD SEE ME OR REFER ME ON in a week to 10 days!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Honestly, I was so frustrated by the end of it all. Luckily my hip isn't painful right now and there isn't anything seriously wrong with me. If there was I think I would have gone a bit mad and shouted a lot. Last week I went to the doctor and he suggested I take up swimming! He said that anything that causes you significant and constant pain whilst exercising and for days afterwards is probably doing some damage. He referred me for some x-rays and to a specialist sports physio/surgeon team. I have had the x-rays and should have the results in about 2 weeks. But for now I have stopped running.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I didn't think I would ever say this in my life, but I am gutted. I actually cried (not with the doctor, but later when I told my coach). I had trained for 12 weeks, up to 4.5miles and was determined to carry on and run the whole half-marathon. Unfortunately I can't now as even if I get the all clear it will be too late to train up for it I think. I am honestly gutted. Who'd have thought!? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have a new plan for the new year (and I had a brief thought that maybe cycling across America next summer with the YFC team, see &lt;a href="http://www.yfcbikeride.org/index.html"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt; for more details, would be a good new goal until I found out that day 2 is 70 miles uphill!! and there are 3 mountain ranges to cross!). In November I ran a total of 24.7miles, burnt 2931 calories just from running, and last week ran 4.5miles in 53mins! Well done me. I have to say that as I am running I am pretty much in horrible pain and am hating it, but when I am finished I feel fitter and smuger! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It feels weird to say 'I am a runner' but if you can run 4.5miles in one go at a steady pace I think you probably are a runner - you probably can run further and faster than loads of people! I was speaking to a woman the other day, speaking of running faster, who ran the Bath half marathon (which I am doing in March) in 1 hour 20mins!!! That is a ridiculously fast time!! And she is no spring chicken either. I don't think if I trained every day for the rest of my life I could ever do it that fast!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am having a few days off this week as my hip is not doing so good and I am trying to see a physio. I would really like to get it sorted because although it goes numb after about 20mins of running on it it is ridiculously painful as soon as I stop and I have to take pain killers for about 2 days after every run. Probably not a good thing!! I actually signed up for it before I started to run but didn't say anything as I didn't know if I would really be able to keep it up and actually commit to training for a 13 mile run! It is week 11 and I have come a long way. The first time I went I ran for 8 minutes and less than 1 mile - and almost died of lack of oxygen!! Last night I ran for 42minutes without a break and did 3.5miles. That's a 12minute mile which isn't very good but I am working on my speed too! So, running is going ok. I have only a one-run memory so if the last run was good I love running, if it was bad I hate running! Anyway, I am persevering and we shall see!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have also switched to the GI diet - it is all to do with eating foods that give you slow-release energy and low fat so that you aren't hungry as often and you can eat more of the good foods! I think I have lost about 8lbs in a week and a half! There was much off-ing and on-ing of shoes, running up and down the street outside in each pair, then in one each of 2 different pairs... It felt a bit ridiculous. However, these were the clear winners because they fit snugly around the heel area which keeps my foot in the shoe even when I wear my orthotic inserts. I had a bad and frustrating run on Friday - I had to stop after about 16 minutes due to ankle pain and hip pain but I can honestly say I did 4 weeks of running. That's probably some kind of record for me. All slash most of the credit goes to Chloe who is ever-patient and takes a lot of abuse and whining from me! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This afternoon I had a nap before the run and I woke up feeling sick at the thought of going running. I am now aware of a horrble sense of dread that fills me before I run if the run before was not good. Fridays seem to be hard for me - maybe the end of the week is not such a good time to run and I am usually tired... Poor excuses but I have had 2 nigthmare Fridays out of 4! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight was horrible to start with but we did a 1hr 20min session of interval running and by the end I was actually running really fast and almost enjoying it! I don't think I enjoy running. I think I like the feeling of having done something that pushes me beyond what I think I can manage and makes me feel like I am achieving something. Maybe I should just take up a new instrument... Chloe has so much belief in me that it keeps me going. I get frustrated by my perceived lack of progress and she spends some time reminding me that on my first run I ran slash shuffled for 8 mins and almost died! Now I can do 15 mins fairly comfortably and then go on to do loads of reps which get faster and faster as the session goes on. She is the best!! (She also reads this...).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As far as losing weight goes I am still losing that battle! I can't stop eating loads the day after a run - I am just so hungry! But I figure it will have to go eventually right?! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I need new shoes - my right foot pronates (the arch falls in) so my hip and ankle hurt and I have to suck up the ibuprofen for a few days. I have been holding off in case I gave up - running shoes are expensive! That amounts to 5 runs! I think I am doing pretty well to have got this far to be honest! My first run was predictably horrible and I thought I might die. As I explained to Chloe, my training partner slash coach, one symptom of dying is not being able to breathe or no breath in the lungs - so technically I actually was showing symptoms of dying! Also, it was pretty much the slowest thing anyone has ever seen. We ran for 8 minutes and had not completed anywhere near the 1.2m circuit we were on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyhow, things improved and the next 2 runs were actually kind of enjoyable. I didn't feel like I had improved that much but Chloe assured me I was doing better.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then Friday happened... It was the worst feeling I have ever had! Like running through the thickest 5-day-old porridge uphill with the wind in your face for the whole session! I was so tired. I kept yelling things like 'I hate running more than I hate the Devil' or 'Who thinks this is fun? They need help'... generally it was just awful. Normally at the end there is a sense of elation and the endorphins kick in and make you forget the hideousness - not Friday! I remember every awful step! It was disgusting. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you are still reading this I applaud your commitment to my self-indulgent drivel! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight was my 5th run and I actually really enjoyed it! We did 12mins to start then stretched out. Then did 4x3min runs with recovery, 3x2min runs with recovery and 2x1min runs. By the end I was actually running as opposed to shuffling and it felt so good! I couldn't breathe again but it was short bursts so it didn't matter as much. At the end I felt really pleased with myself - and also because I hadn't yelled at Chloe or the general ether once or waved my arms in despair, or almost cried (which every other run made me do!). So, although progress seems slowish to me it is apparently real and tangible and will continue to be so! Yay! I have 2 more runs this week then a slacker week next week.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One slight issue is that my hip pretty much kills after a run and I have to take Ibuprofen for a day or two but I can deal with that and Chloe reckons new shoes will make it all better so I am looking into that - maybe tomorrow! How keen am I!? I am astonishing myself. And also, and I promise I will finish with this, it really appeals to my competetive nature - I find I can even be competetive with myself! I think hvaing two is psychologically damaging and makes me think it is too much of a chore! Anyway, what's new in the world of Weighting The Issue...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. I am back on weight watchers although I am not going to the meetings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. I have taken up running.  I have a friend who is a very keen runner and has been part of a running club for ages etc (Chloe) and she and I have a bit of an agreement. I have promised her 4 weeks of running and possibly more if I like it by the end in return for some spiritual mentoring. We have been twice so far and I have to say that while I am on the move I hate it - and I mean hate. But as soon as I am finished I feel great. So I think I might keep going - although don't tell her. I don't want her to think I like it yet! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is definitely much more taxing than cycling and therefore I reason must help me lose weight faster and become more over-all toned. You use your arms and shoulders and core a lot while running (and all your lower body of course..) so it makes a difference as opposed to just sitting on a bike. I have given myself some goals so we will see how it goes. I don't put my goals on here because I hate feeling like a failure! So if no one, or only a few people, know my goals then there is some damage control on feeling like a failure. It isn't that I don't trust you...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So that's what's new. I have been going a week, or just over a week and it feels positive and I feel motivated. I am going running again tomorrow and Friday and then upping it to 3 times a week next week. I don't know how it will go if I become unmotivated but we shall see! So far this blog is mostly a record of my yo-yo dieting. Haha - I am beginning to remind myself of a broken record. I suspect I put on quite a few pounds the week before so am ok with only having put on 1lb this week. So far, in my own personal weigh-ins in the week I am losing, so hopefully this week I will do better. I haven't given up!! And I saw an awful photo of myself at a wedding and I looked like I had been on steroids for a year!! Like a power-puff girl! I have been good since Saturday but I was still too scared to go - what a woose! I also don't know how to spell woose slash wuss... I have lady issues, which is no excuse really, but I just dreaded the thought of going after such a good week last week and then gaining even a pound. I have lost a stone - see if I had gained a pound even I would only have lost nearly a stone. It would have caused psychological trauma.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have no proof that I didn't lose weight, just a feeling. I saw my Daniel fast through until the end of lent and the lack of updates is due to one week being away on training with work, and one week being at home in Ireland - so no meetings. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, the end of lent was a pleasure! I broke my fast with some hot cross buns and a croissant on Easter Sunday morning and some chocolate fingers (all good healthy stuff!). Then later that day had a steak and some mash and cauliflower cheese! Again a health-fest! And on Easter Monday had a load of people round for a huge feast! So all in all have been 'rewarding' myself for my efforts during lent (does that mean my treasure stored up in heaven is depleting?). &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I went to my meeting last night resigned to having put on a pound or two and not caring so much due to the elation of having been so good for so long... And I did put on 2lbs. I don't even care and it was all totally worth it! I am now back on the wagon totally and will be expecting to be back on track next Wednesday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also, have been pretty good with exercising. Dad and I went up the mountains when I was home, walked with the Coles family, went out for a big walk on Easter Monday... It's all good in the hood. Feeling positive and motivated still. That's right, another 2lbs this week and no need for all that worrying this morning! I was pleased - although it would have been better if it had been 3lbs... I always feel slightly nervous when I go, but this week I am already feeling a bit funny about it and it is only 9am! That's sad isn't it. It isn't that big a deal I need to keep telling mysel. I have cycled 11 miles 4 times since last class and I am still only eating fruit and vegetables... The things that make me worry are that I have eaten some houmous this week which is a bit fattening, and some nuts - although not that many. So I probably don't need to worry, but I still am! I know I have been good and I have been cycling and Pilates-ing for almost 3 weeks now! I still can't quite shake the slight worry that comes with just not knowing if I have been good enough - we will all see tomorrow night!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My only problem with doing this vegetable and fruit fast and weight watchers at the same time is that normally, as a small incentive slash reward to myself, I give myself weight watcher's night off and eat what I like. I can't do that now and there isn't anything fruity or vegetably that I could eat to make myself feel a little bit naughty and indulgent! I have been very good all week and have done exercise most days - in fact I only missed one! So yay me! Am very happy with that! If I can keep that up until Christmas no one will recognise me! Last year I gave up TV for 46 days, this year I went for something easier!! Well, it is new to me. I got it for £20 on ebay then had to drive to Birmingham to pick it up (£14) so still a bargain! I have been on it 3 times now (since Sunday) and I feel pretty smug. I think the way forward is definitely to have an indoor bike and watch boxsets of your favourite shows while you cycle your way to fit and thin! I am currently on series 4 of The West Wing which is just phenomenal! I have been getting up at 8am to exercise before work for 3 days now and it hasn't killed me so I might keep it up! It is really good for my stomach muscles apparently. I have done it twice and it does make them hurt... so maybe it is a good thing. It is quite fun to do and it makes me laugh at myself. I rejoined this evening, and guttingly have put on all but three and a half pounds of that. So, the road begins again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was so ashamed of myself that I couldn't go back to my old class, I had to find a new one.
